Rayo Vallecano fans staged a protest against manager Raúl Martín Presa on Sunday (September 1).

Fans are refusing to renew their season tickets and have planned boycotts of the club's games following relegation from Spain's La Liga last season.

Despite the fan unrest, the club beat Deportivo 3-1.

Fans and veterans of the stands have decided for all these reasons, not to renew their subscription and within the respect and understanding, have invited the rest of fans to join this action, but finally after the closing of the renewal period, the club reported of the total number of subscribers: 10,360 subscribers, exceeding the figure of 10,210 of the 2016-17 season (also in second division). To show their dissatisfaction with this situation, different actions have been proposed from the fan clubs and platforms, such as the animation strike, not attending the meetings leaving the "Empty Staircase" and other actions.

Although it does not serve as a clear reference (given the holiday dates), in the first meeting of this season against Mirandés, the worst entry was recorded in a league premiere of the last decade of the club, with 6,028 spectators in the stands of Vallecas Stadium .
