Drone footage shows steep Tojinbo Cliffs in Fukui, Japan.
The Tojinbo Cliffs are famous as Japan's foremost scenic spot for rugged rocks and they extend for approximatly one kilometer (about half a mile) along Fukui Prefecture’s coastline. These oddly-shaped rocks made of columnar joints of pyroxene andesite are geologically rare, and there are only three places in the world where you can see them: North Korea's Mount Kumgang; the western coast of Norway; and at Tojinbo Cliffs. The view from the top of the cliffs, which are 25 meters high (82 feet), is truly spectacular. The Japanese Government designated Tojinbo Cliffs as a natural monument along with nearby Oshima Island which locals refer to as the “island of God." There is also a pleasure boat service available to let you enjoy the dynamic landscape of sheer cliffs from the sea. This 30-minute trip takes you to the most impressive features such as: Lion Rock; Candle Rock; and others. Old-fashioned souvenir shops and traditional Japanese restaurants serving fresh seafood and vegetables are nestled together near the cliffs and offer visiting tourists a wide range of choices.
