A Chinese tourist was arrested after picking up a fanny pack full of cash that another passenger dropped at an airport.

The woman, Liu Wen Xuan, 46, was checking in when she saw the black bum bag on the ground next to counters at the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday (September 2) night.

CCTV shows how she reaches down and collects the bag which had 1,441 US dollars (1,200GBP) inside and a passport.

However, the bag belonged to Iranian tourist Mohammad Abbas Humse, 29, who was frantic with worry when he reported it missing to airport security.

The authorities checked CCTV footage and saw the moment Liu Wen Xuan picked the bag up and kept it for herself - a crime classed as theft in Thailand.

Officers searched the airport and found Liu Wen Xuan in the departure lounge where the stolen bag had been stuffed inside her carry-on luggage.

Airport police dragged Liu Wen Xuan to the station inside the terminal where she denied stealing the bag.

She said: "I did not steal it, I kept it because I did not know who should I return it to."

Police Captain Apichai Supho explained to the Chinese tourist that what she did was a crime and she will be charged for it.

He said: "I do not know whether doing this is legal in China or not, but I have informed her that in Thailand it is illegal.

"We will charge her for stealing in the airport and we will contact the embassy before any further punishments are given.''
