Indian Met Department issues red alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts reeling under flood
With heavy rains pounding many parts of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sept. 4 issued 'red alert' in many areas of the state and urged the authorities to be prepared to handle any kind of adverse situation.
Terrifying visuals show commuters wading through flooded streets amid incessant rains in Vasai Evershine Road.
In one of the visuals, several people can be seen standing in a bogey of a tractor which moves through the flooded street.
Aerial images showed vehicles, including trucks, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and cars-crossing through the waterlogged street in the city.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued a red alert in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad cities in Maharashtra.
After a brief lull last week, rains resumed since Sept. 2 and with the south-west monsoon again getting activated, Mumbai and several other parts of the state witnessed heavy rains on Sept. 3 overnight and Sept. 4 morning.
Torrential downpour has wreaked havoc in the state, affecting normal life. Road, rail and air traffic were heavily disrupted by the heavy showers.
