In a bizarre turn of events, a poisonous cobra snake died after biting a man in northern India.

The incident took place on August 30 in Sukhanagar village in Bihar state's Supaul district.

Reports said the man, identified as Subodh Prasad Singh, 55, was sleeping outside when the cobra bit him.

Singh took out a ceremonial thread and tied it around his waist while raising the alarm.

When his relatives arrived after hearing his scream, Singh informed them of his ordeal, but the snake had already left.

Singh was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors referred him to a private clinic after attending to him.

While Singh's condition is said to be stable, the snake was found dead, much to everyone's astonishment.

The incident has left several people baffled, and it is not yet known what killed the snake.
