Loch Ness Monster may be giant eel after scientists analyse DNA from waters of Loch Ness
Scientists said today that the fabled Loch Ness Monster may just be giant eels. Researchers from New Zealand have tried to catalogue all living species in the loch by extracting DNA from water samples, though 20% remain unidentified. The scientists have ruled out the presence of large animals said to be behind reports of a monster. No evidence confirming the existence of a prehistoric marine reptile called a plesiosaur or a large fish such as a sturgeon was found. Though the mystery endures as the loch - the largest in Scotland - has many tunnels under the mountains to the North Sea and it is possible that any crypto-zooalogical marine species may not often visit the loch.
