Canadian aid organisation Global Medic on Saturday readied hundreds of boxes of supplies destined for the hurricane-ravaged Bahamas.
According to the organisation, more than 200 volunteers gathered at Global Medic's headquarters in Etobicoke, Ontario to pack the boxes containing "food kits for families in the Bahamas."

The category 5 Hurricane Dorian made landfall over the northwest Bahamas on September 1st. The hurricane is the strongest in the history of the Bahamas. The storm has damaged infrastructure and caused massive flooding in the areas of Abaco and Grand Bahama. Damage assessments are still ongoing, however 20 people have been killed and over 68,000 people have been affected by the storm. With the damage so extensive, people are in immediate need of clean water and food. GlobalMedic is responding.
On Wednesday, September 4th, GlobalMedic deployed seven Rapid Response Team members with water purification units and a RescUAV Team with drones to the Bahamas to provide on the ground assistance. The team is led by a Staff Sergeant of the Peel Regional Police. Also included in the team is rookie firefighter from Toronto Pearson Airport and former Toronto Maple Leaf and New York Ranger, Andre Deveaux. Andre was born and raised in the Bahamas and late last night, was able to contact his father who was in Freeport at the time of the Hurricane. His father is alive and well and his family could not be more grateful.

1) On Saturday, September 7, GlobalMedic is packing Emergency Food Kits for families in the Bahamas. More than 200 volunteers will be at GlobalMedic's HQ preparing the aid. Anya Nordström Deveaux, wife of Andre Deveaux will be in attendance and available for interviews between 10:30 am - 11:30 am.
