Indian police managed to save life of a 21-year-old man who jumped from the terrace of a three-storey hospital yesterday (September 9).

Rahul Valmiki was upset after a girl broke up with him and married another man, prompting him to climb the terrace of a hospital in Palanpur in Gujarat state.

Seeing him on the terrace, a huge crowd gathered below, and a team of policemen along with Rahul’s family members tried talking him down.

The police arrayed several thick mattresses and sheets from the hospital and spread them on the road beneath to catch him.

This foresight proved to be invaluable as Rahul later jumped and was caught on one of the sheets, softening his fall, and leaving him uninjured.

Senior police officer A. R. Zankant commented: "Rahul was very stubborn and refused to listen to us. He survived thanks to the bedsheet.”

Seeing him on the terrace, a huge crowd gathered below and a team of policemen also went to the spot.

A few policemen along with Rahul’s family members tried talking to him to make him come down.

Fearing that he may jump, police got thick mattresses from the hospital and spread them on the road. They also held a few big bedsheets on the ground below.

Rahul refused to heed the advise and jumped suddenly. But the police who were standing below him, managed to arrest his fall with a bedsheet and saved his life.

Doctors examined Rahul and found that he had not suffered any injury in the incident.
