Very rare footage has surfaced showing how a hyena uses its saliva to cool down on a burning hot day in the Kalahari desert.

Hyenas, like many canines, do not sweat and so this one wets his legs and face with saliva to try and cool down as temperatures rose more than 42 degrees Celsius.

This video was taken in the Kgalagadi National Park on February 22.
