This is the moment drivers battle through thick haze caused by forest fires in Indonesia.

Residents in south Borneo were hit with the smog on September 9, caused by thousands of blazes in woodland across the region.

The damaging smoke has caused a thick haze on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, in Borneo and also in neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore.

Footage taken by the motorcycle rider Muhammad from southern Borneo shows a road covered with haze, suffocating road users and leading to limited visibility.

Muhammad said: "We have lived through the haze for a week but there has been no serious action by the government and it only worsens everyday.

"I think the government is ignoring it as not many people outside our country notice this hazardous atmosphere.''

Malaysian authorities have also urged the Indonesian authorities for more serious action. Environment Ministry officer Gary Theseirasaid they will try to ease the smog for their area.

He said: "When the haze situation is settled we will begin the cloud seeding to ease and stop further damage."

The Indonesian government has deployed 9,000 firemen to battle the forest fires raging in Sumatra and Kalimantan province on Borneo island.
