This queen red ant found a cosy place to make her nest wrapped up inside a green leaf.

Manatthawut Chusaeng, 35, spotted the strange-looking chilli leaf in his backyard in Krabi, southern Thailand last Friday (06/09) morning.

He looked closer and saw the queen red ant cocooned inside the curly leaf while cleaning and nestling her eggs after she lost her wings after mating.

Manutthawut, who is working as a local guide, said: "Spring and Fall are the mating season for the red ant.

"After that the male will die and the female will seek a new plant for starting a new colony as she is losing her wings.

"A curly leaf of trees is a sign that the leaf has been occupied by a queen red ant who starts the process of making a nest."
