An angry commuter has left a toll worker in northern India with critical injuries after smashing a tin can on his head.

The shocking incident, captured on CCTV cameras, took place on September 13 near the Bahadurgarh area of Haryana state.

Footage shows the commuter first hit the worker during an argument.

Then he picks up a giant empty can from the side of the road and smashes it on the toll worker's head.

The impact is so hard the toll worker falls limply to the ground.

Reports said the victim sustained critical injuries.

This is the shocking moment an angry commuter smashed a tin can on a toll worker after he was intercepted by the latter in northern India.

The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, took place on Sept. 13 near Bahadurgarh area of Haryana state.

Visuals showed the commuter hitting the worker after an argument spiraled out of control.

The commuter was also accompanied by a few others. However, in a shock move, he picks up an empty can placed on the roadside and smashes it on the toll worker's head.

The impact was so hard the toll worker fell thud on the ground and remained motionless.

Reports said the victim sustained grave injuries.

Such a brazen attack is not uncommon, especially in Haryana, which has witnessed a growth in violence in the recent past.

In August, a woman staffer of a toll booth was assaulted by a commuter after she refused to allow him to pass without paying the toll-tax.

In another incident, that took place in June, a worker was dragged on the bonnet of a car in a case of road rage.
