At least three lions and a lioness were pulled out of a well in a marathon operation in western India.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sept. 15 in Gujarat state's Amreli district.

The felines had fallen in a 100-feet deep open well in the Sarasiya range of Gir forest- home to Asiatic lions- on Sept. 14.

Following information about the lions' presence, the animals were rescued in an overnight operation.

Visual showed the lioness being winched out of the well by the forest department officials.

The rescued animals have been moved to a facility and are kept under observation.

Reports quoted Dushyant Vasavada, chief conservator of forest of Junagadh Wildlife Circle, as saying the lions will be released into the wild once they are fit enough.
