Quick-thinking rescuers lower rope cot to help drowning leopard climb out of farm well in central India
A video has emerged of a leopard being rescued from a well, hours after it fell down.
The rescue operation took place on Sept. 15 in western India's Maharashtra state.
The feline had fallen down the well on the night of Sept. 14.
Luckily, it was spotted by locals in Mehkar, a town in the state's Buldhana district.
Visual showed the leopard keeping it afloat by latching on to a steel pedestal.
After the animal was spotted, forest department officials lowered a cot for the leopard to hold on to and climb out.
Since the cot was placed several feet away from the pedestal, the leopard did not even attempt to move.
Sensing the leopard's discomfort, officials brought it closer.
Once it saw the cot near it, the leopard took its time and slowly begun to climb up.
However, once it reached the top, it stopped.
The leopard only crossed over the other side of the well after an officer prodded it with a stick.
The news of the leopard inside the well made many rush to the spot. The rescue was witnessed by a large number of people.
In a similar rescue a family of lions- a lioness and her three male cubs- were rescued from 100 feet dry well in Gujarat Gir forest area.
