Delivery driver killed after trying to cross railway line as train approached
This is the shocking moment a courier drove onto a level crossing before being hit by an oncoming train.
Delivery driver Jirawat Rakniwet, 37, moved forwards onto the tracks as the locomotive was just a few yards away to his right in Ratchaburi, central Thailand.
CCTV footage from last Saturnday (14/09) afternoon shows the moment the train smashed into the van before ramming it forward. It then spun onto the grass bank.
The emergency services found the wreckage 200 meters away from the crash site with the driver unconscious at the steering wheel.
Jirawat died later in hospital after suffering head injuries in the collision.
A resident saw the accident told local media that she tried to warn the driver that a train was coming but he did not hear her.
She said: "I saw the car start moving across the railway and I had tried to warn him.
"The train driver also blew the whistle as he approached but the car still drove on and was hit hard by the train. It rammed him for another 200 meters.
"Normally, the driver always brings his kid along in the van but today he did not, otherwise they could all have been killed.''
Police and railway officials in Ratchaburi are now investigating the accident.
