In Kotor and Dubrovnik enormous cruise ships are docking throughout the year, putting pressure on historic ports in the Mediterranean and severely affecting the marine ecosystem.

The video, filmed on July 28, 2018 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, also known as the “pearl of the Adriatic,” shows scores of tourists queuing for shuttle buses back to cruise ships.

The city walls of Dubrovnik, are increasingly popular with tourists due to its connection with Game of Thrones.

The video also shows footage take on July 23, 2018 from a tender of several cruise ships in port in Kotor, Montenegro, including the Norwegian Star.

It has been reported in the Guardian that according to officials, cruise ships are causing lasting damage but because 80% of locals in Dubrovnik are dependant on tourism, many are resistant to addressing such problems.

Kotor is at greater risk than Dubrovnik because Montenegro is outside the EU, meaning EU laws don’t apply. There is no recognised marine reserves and no restrictions on noise.
