Villagers in India have installed a huge statue of an elephant at the starting point of their farming area to scare of herds of around 22 wild elephants.

The problem is said to affect 52 villages, including Kukradih, Parsadeh and Tenduhavi, surrounding Mahasamund.

According to the villagers, in the last five years, wild elephants have damaged around 1000-hectares of land and have also killed around 15 people and injured around 20.

Villagers of Mahasamund district in state of Chattisgarh have installed a big statue of a elephant ( Elephants are prayed as a Lord ganesha in Hindu culture) on 17th September . Villagers of Kukradih , Parsadeh and Tenduhavi village decided to install elephant statue at the starting point of farm area in their village and strated praying it appealing to save their corps from wild elephants . According to villagers in last 5 years wild elephants have damaged their around 1000 hectare of land and have also killed around 15 people and injuring around 20 people ..There is a herd of around 22 elephants .One villager said that when forest department and government after a lot of try in last couple of years were unable to drive off the wild elephants than we decided to pray to lord Gaensha and installed a big statue of elephant , now he can only save our corps from elephants . 52 villages surrounding Mahasamund are facing problem from elephants . Villagers says that there is less menace of elephants after this elephant statue and prayers .
