Thousands of students stormed into the local parliament building in Padang, Indonesia on Wednesday (September 25).

The students were protesting a new law passed last week they say reduces the authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission.

After successfully occupying the West Sumatra Provincial Government Office on September 24, 2019, tens of thousands of students in Padang returned to encircling and occupying all sides of the parliament building in West Sumatra Province in Padang City.

not only entered the parliament building of the people of West Sumatra province, the demonstrators also damaged a number of parliamentary meeting room facilities including tables, chairs, building glass, mics, and scribbled walls inside the parliament building.

The demonstration on the 25th of September took place from 09.00 AM until the crowd dispersed at 17.00 PM.

in its action the demonstrators rejected a number of revisions to the law drafted and will be ratified by the parliament of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta.

Among the elements which were rejected was the revision of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Law which was considered to weaken, besides the bill on the elimination of sexual violence that would harm Indonesian society and get out of the context of Indonesian society norms.
