A nine-year-old boy has survived after being run over and dragged by a car in northern China.

CCTV footage captured in Baiquan county in Heilongjiang province on July 31 shows a man walking towards his parked car and starting it. He fails to see a boy squatting on the ground and runs over him.

The boy was dragged forward for around five metres before appearing from under the car.

A nearby shop owner contacted the boy's parents and the boy was then sent to hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, the boy only suffered minor injuries.

Although this youngster got lucky, China is responsible for 20 per cent of all traffic-related fatalities globally, according to World Health Organisation figures.

The incident happened on July 31 but the CCTV video was released by the authority today (September 25).
