A quilt shop in Ludhiana, India is seen in deadly flames.

The fire took place on Thursday (September 26) causing the death of a 54-year-old woman, Harsh Chawla.

Reports said the building did not have a fire safety plan and the owner did not have the required documents.

A massive fire gutted a part of a building after it broke out at a quilt shop in northern India's Punjab state.

The incident took place on Sept. 26 near Arya Mohalla area of Ludhiana city.

Visuals showed a massive blaze raging from the building while another showed thick black smoke billowing.

Footage also showed firemen using water cannon to douse the flame.

Reports said a woman died during the incident.

The deceased, identified as Harsh Chawla, 54, was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to asphyxiation.

Five others from the family, including her husband, Charanjit Chawla, her son Manish Chawla, his wife Ayushi Chawla and their one-year-old daughter and four-year-old son escaped death.

Fire also damaged machinery and goods worth lakhs, two scooters and a motorcycle.

An ATM facility situated next to the building also suffered significant damages.

According to officials, at least 25 fire tenders were pressed into action.

The fire was finally doused after a two-hour operation.
