A group of small waterbirds were caught spinning around on an Arizona lake as they searched for food.

Filmed on September 11, several Wilson's phalaropes are seen pirouetting on the water's surface in order to make their prey rise to the top.

The filmer told Newsflare: "Wilson's Phalaropes are waterbirds that have a unique way of foraging for food.

"They go around in circles in the water, creating a whirlpool that sucks up food such as midges and tiny shrimp that rise to the surface.

"When a group of phalaropes circle at the same time, mostly in the same direction, it can look like a synchronized ballet."
