Heartbreaking moment monkeys are electrocuted while running to help their friend in Thailand
This is the heartbreaking moment monkeys ran along live wires to try to help their electrocuted friend - only to be electrocuted themselves.
Thawatchai Wachum spotted the group of monkeys playing on the electrical pole in Phetchabun, northeastern Thailand on September 27.
Footage shows the moment one of the monkeys ran to the top of the pole and was electrocuted, lying dead some 20ft in the air.
Devastation then followed as the monkeys tried to run to help him only to be electrocuted themselves and drop dead onto the ground below.
Onlooker Thawatchai witnessed the incident and called on the local authorities to fix the post.
He said: "The authorities need to fix the electric leakage as soon as possible, next time it could be human who should hurt."
The leader of the monkey pack eventually summoned all of the remaining creatures down from the pole and they ran away into nearby woodland.
