Horrific discovery when man finds baby buried alive in shallow grave in north India
A terrible discovery was made when a man found a newborn girl buried alive in an earthen pot in north India on October 12.
The child was discovered Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, buried almost three feet underground, by a man who had gone to bury his own daughter, who died minutes after being born prematurely.
Hitesh Kumar Sirohi, who is a trader by profession, rescued the girl on from a cremation ground while burying his own child.
He commented: "As the pit was being dug by me, at a depth of three feet, the spade hit an earthen pot, which was pulled out. There was a baby girl lying in it."
According to police the girl was alive and breathing heavily, and is currently admitted to a private hospital being kept in an incubator.
The details of the girl's parents who attempted to bury her alive are yet to be ascertained but police are investigating the matter.
Hospital staff have named the baby girl Sita, after a Hindu mythological figure whose mother was said to be the Earth.
