Entangled manta ray asks diver for help off coast of Mexico
Lionfish have invaded the Gulf of Mexico and are decimating the natural and artificial reefs. We were on a Lionfish hunting expedition when out of no where a Manta Ray slowly swims right at Dive Master Carl Molitor, who was by far the most experienced diver in the water. The Manta stopped and hovered over him allowing Carl to cut an entanglement of thick fishing line from around the ray's mouth and neck area. The second the line is pulled free the Manta dashes on. It was if the Manta heard the fish being speared, knew we were there, found us, then knew the best person to help him. He swam past 3 other divers, including myself to reach Carl.
