Tourists flocked to this mountain in northern Thailand as temperatures dropped to just 5C this morning - causing a stunning blanket of mist and dew.

Visitors were seen lining the road while enjoying the cooler weather this morning (October 15) at the Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai, the highest point in Thailand.

The mist was thick and reduced the visibility to 200 metres with officials warning motorists to slow down while driving.

Doi Inthanon National Park boss Kritsiam Kongsatri said that the park is preparing for the increasing number of tourists who will visit for the winter views.

He said: "The mist drew a lot of attention from tourists and the number is starting to increase because the area is colder."

"The tourist can enjoy the sightseeing and can enter the park to see the numerous plants that thrive in the cooler temperatures.''

The country's Meteorological Department has forecast that temperatures in the north could plunge to 7C.

State meteorologist Phuwiang Prakhammin said that this year’s winter will be colder and longer than last year. He expected the cool season to last for approximately 122 days until mid-February, with average lows of 20C to 21C nationwide throughout the entire season.

He predicted that the north region will face the last wave of rain before October 17.
