A cook in a government school in Bigha village near Nawada in eastern India spotted an adult cobra inside the kitchen on October 12.

She shut the door and informed the school headmaster, who called an amateur snake rescuer from a nearby village to capture the snake.

The man managed to catch the over five-feet-long cobra from the kitchen. But putting it in a container so that it could shifted to a forest turned out to be an ordeal.

The cobra was reluctant to enter a plastic bucket he had brought to carry it. It would come out the instant he put it inside.

The cobra resisted going inside a mud pot with a narrow opening as well.

As the crowd gathered and offered suggestions, the rescuer lost his cool and offered to hand over the cobra to let them finish the task.

The cobra grew increasingly restless and started taking swipes at the man, who struggled to hold it at a distance. It was even escaped once and tried to run away in vain.

After struggling for nearly 20 minutes, the man managed to put the cobra inside the bucket with the help of an onlooker.

Snake expert Subhendu Mallik said: “The man was courageous but lacked training and proper equipment. It was disheartening to see the crowd filming the incident instead of helping him.”
