A local stream had experienced a surge following heavy rain and submerged a road near Hingangaon village in Sangli district, western Maharashtra on September 26.

People had gathered to watch the flood and warn passers-by to take an alternative road. The truck driver ignored their warning and decided to drive through.

But the truck drifted due to the strong current and toppled after driving into a pit on the edge of the road. A few local men ran to the truck fearing for driver’s safety.

One of them climbed the fallen vehicle and pulled the driver out of the window. A JCB excavation machine was summoned to carry both of them to safety.
