Coral Reef Bleaching occurred in Sungai Pinang,
one of the sea tourism area in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
Bleaching of the coral reefs was initially known to residents on Friday, October 18, 2019 and to this day (10/20) is still ongoing.
This condition led to the emergence of smoke haze as soon as possible, the burning of forests and land, which hit the number of areas on the island of Sumatra.
It is also a consequence of climate change.
According to the activation of the Environment, the mist immediately causes the coral reefs not to get sunlight for a long time. Though sunlight is needed for the process of life and growth of coral reefs. Mist immediately hit Sumatra and regions in Indonesia, lasting almost two months. Besides disrupting residents' activities and health, smog also prevents sunlight.
It is feared that if bleaching continues, corals will die and marine ecosystems will also be disrupted.

1. David Andespin - Residents: Usually we plant mangroves here. This is a mangrove planting location. After monitoring the mangroves, when we washed our feet here, I immediately saw there was coral bleaching.

2. Indrawadi - Environmental Activist: This initial allegation is due to haze. Due to lack of sunlight, the process of photosynthesis of coral was disrupted. Because the sun's light is blocked by smog.
