A pet cafe in southern China's Chengdu is facing criticism after dyeing six Chow Chow dogs to make them look like pandas.

The video shows the Chow Chows sitting down as a girl called their names.

The pet cafe opened a new business to let customers dye the dogs and charges 1500 Yuan (£165) per dog.

The cafe owner Mr Huang said the six panda dogs who he bought from another place and brought them back to Chengdu were very popular among the customers.

Huang said the hair dyes were all imported and organic, while the cafe had professional workers to dye the fur for dogs now.

However, the panda dogs caused controversy on Chinese social media. Some netizens found the panda dogs are cute and commented on Weibo "I like the cafe owner's idea. The dogs become cuter. What breed is that? Please give me one!"

But others said: "I feel sorry for the dogs. Why did they dye the fur for them?

"Even if you dye the fur for the dogs, they are still dogs, they cannot become pandas. The dye is not good for them, we cannot hurt them just because we think they will look prettier."
