Forest department officials captured a rogue elephant that had terrorised villagers in south India on October 24.

The 20-year-old tusker was tranquilised near Bandipur National Park in Karnataka, and tied up with ropes with the help of trained elephants. It was then lifted into a truck and shifted to an elephant camp at Dubare.

The elephant roamed in the forest range that spanned across the states and Karnataka. It had reportedly killed two men and attacked several villagers living close to the forest triggering panic in the area.

On October 22, the tusker had attacked a man who tried to take a selfie with it. On the same day, it attacked a shepherd and killed a cow and several sheep.

Forest officials had sounded an alert in the area and asked villagers to be on guard.

Forest officials received a call from a villager who had spotted the tusker near Talagattapura area on early morning of October 24.

A team of officials rushed to the spot at 10.30am with six captive elephants and tranquillised it after two hours of tracking.

Though drugged, the powerful animal gave a hard time to the captive elephants, which took nearly an hour to drag it to a waiting truck.

The news about the elephant capture spread like wildlife and thousands of people gathered at the spot from nearby villages making operations difficult.
