Locals compete against each other in a coconut grating competition.

The event is held annually for fund raising for a Bhuddist boat parade which is held the following year in Trang, southern Thailand.

Footage from Tuesday (22/10) morning shows how the skilled residents sit in lines and grate the coconut as quickly as they can. The fastest coconut grater wins 2,000 baht (51 GBP).

Reigning champion Ngeg Wanraek, 78, won for the 12th successive year after grating all of the raw coconut flesh in three minutes.

The grandmother said that she wants new competitors to join every year so they can challenge her, while helping to raise funds.

She said: "This competition was fun not because I have won but mainly because we can all join each other and raise funds for the Bhuddist boat parade next year."
