Bizarre footage shows angry locals dressed as ghosts to protest about a broken bridge.

Residents were annoyed that the crossing had not been repaired since tropical storm Podul hit Thailand in September.

The concrete structure collapsed, leaving people living in the remote part of Chaiyaphum province unable to reach neighbouring villages.

They dressed as ghouls and mimicked coming back from the dead to haunt the local politician responsible for road works.

Video from last Sunday (October 27) shows several men with their faces painted clambering up like zombies from the broken structure to the government office.

This strange protest resembles the traditional Thai belief that spirits rise from the dead to seek donations from the living.

The chief executive of the provincial administrative organization, Montree Chakruea, admitted that the repairs were delayed but asked for residents to be patient - and not to haunt her.

He said: "The organization did not delay the reconstruction on purpose but we need to request the budget from the government which takes time."

"We will begin the reconstruction as soon as possible but we need the local people to be more patient and do not make things worse by protesting."
