At least 40 people were injured in a firefight during celebrations of the ''Hingot Festival'' in central India.

The fiery festival took place Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on October 28, customarily celebrated in Indore's Gautampuri area.

The participants use forest fruits called hingots stuffed with gunpowder as ammunition. The groups from the villages of Gautampura and Rungi then ignite the fruit's stem attached to a fuse and throw them at each other like rockets, as part of what locals call the "hingot war".

During the event on Monday, at least 40 people received minor burns. Nineteen of them were provided first aid on the spot where police and health officials were deployed to keep an eye on the participants.
