This is the adorable moment an elephant calf needed a lending hand from his mum after getting stuck in the mud in Zimbabwe.

The clip, filmed October 29 shows the moment the skinny-legged baby elephant got helped by his mum's trunk after getting stuck in the muddy slippery trench.

“The mother elephant uttered these deep and loud rumbling noises out of the concern and gently wrapped her trunk around the back of her calf. With hardly any effort, the mother carefully lifted her calf up the muddy slope and back onto safer grounds,” the filmer told Newsflare.

During a recent safari in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, we stopped at one of the most popular watering holes in the park. Animals travel great distances to get to the water during the peak dry season. Elephants in particular come to this watering hole in their masses to drink daily. We spent a good hour at this water hole, observing the great numbers of elephants coming to drink. Suddenly I noticed a skinny legged baby elephant having trouble to get out of a muddy and slippery trench. The baby elephant was attempting to get out but it just could not get a proper grip on the slippery slope. With its rather long and skinny legs, the baby elephant was slipping and sliding up against the slope, clearly still to young to show any four-wheel drive capabilities needed as an elephant. Luckily mommy was right next to her calf and immediately realized that her beloved calf was struggling. The mother elephant uttered these deep and loud rumbling noises out of concern and gently wrapped her trunk around the back of her calf. With hardly no effort, the mother carefully lifted her calf up the muddy slope and back onto safer grounds. The baby elephant was all to happy to be out and ran straight after his mother in an attempt to get a drink of milk.
