A tiger that fell into a river on November 6 and got stuck in some rocks in western India tragically succumbed to its injuries almost 24 hours later after several failed rescue attempts.

The incident took place on November 6 in Bhadravati Tehsil in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra.

Visuals show the stuck tiger looking helplessly as local people film it from a distance after news broke out of its presence.

The big predator was then filmed later trying to latch onto a metal cage that was lowered by forest department officials in an effort to rescue it.

However, the tiger not only failed to get out, but it also hurt its jaw in the process, with footage showing the tiger bleeding from its mouth.

The rescue mission, which lasted for nearly 12 hours, was halted as light faded. The tiger perished soon after.

Footage shot on November 7 show forest department officials retrieving the tiger's body out of the river and taking it towards a vehicle.

They can be seen moving the body onto a stretcher, after which they cover it with a net and carry it towards the vehicle.

It was placed on the back of a mini truck and moved to another location.

Initial reports had mistakenly claimed that the tiger had been successfully rescued by the forest department on November 6.

Chandrapur Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Rama Rao had stated that they had tried various methods to coax the tiger out but failed, and the animal had died.

Initial reports said that the tiger had been successfully rescued by the forest department on Nov. 6.

Later, reports dismissed the claim and said the forest department officials were yet to rescue the big feline which sustained multiple injuries.

Chandrapur Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Rama Rao had stated that they had tried various methods to coax the tiger out but failed to succeed.

It was on the morning of Nov. 7 when they planned to restart the operation that they found him dead.

Reports also mention that the officials tried various methods, such as lowering a cage, setting out fireworks, etc., to rescue the tiger.

However, the tiger did not give the desired response and had suffered multiple injuries, including one on its back.
