Cameroonian Prime Minister Dion Ngute on Saturday (November 9) paid homage to the 43 people killed by a landslide in the western city of Bafoussam last week.

Ngute paid his respects beside 43 coffins which were laid out at a ceremonial site.

President Paul Biya declared a day of national mourning to mark the disaster which affected more than 150 families.

The landslide was triggered when a heavy downpour struck Gouatchie 4 neighborhood of Bafoussam on Oct. 28.

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, the flag flew at half-mast as the entire nation observed a national mourning day degreed by President Paul Biya. On the instructions of President Biya, the Head of Government Prime Minister Dion Ngute was at the site of incident for the official event to pay homage to the victims. Some 43 Coffins representing the 45 men, women, pregnant women and kids were laid at the ceremonial ground.

The PM also visited the site in Goauchie 4, Bafoussam 3 subdivision in the West region. Earlier after the landslide, President Paul Biya coughed out the sum of FCFA 200 million to be shared among the families of the victims.

Cameroon's opposition leader, Maurice Kamto was also present at the event.
