This is the heartwarming moment a petrol station attendant gave a stray dog a shower with the forecourt's water hose.

The worker beckoned over the bedraggled pooch which was wandering around pumps in Manila, the Philippines, on November 2.

He then washed the dirty dog with a bowl of soapy water and the hosepipe used for re-filling water tanks in car engines.

Onlooker Lauri Labadnoy captured the footage while was ref-filling with fuel.

He said: "I thought of taking a video and first sent it to my girlfriend because it was such a sweet moment."

Lauri kept the location of the petrol station hidden in case the worker angered bosses for defying rules on animals and pets.

He said: "We do not know what their management rules are, so I chose to hide the identity of the man for his safety."

Stray animals, particularly dogs and cats, are a common problem in Philippines cities and are often mistreated, with people not allowing them in their businesses.
