A killer elephant branded "Osama bin Laden" for a vicious rampage it made through northeast India leaving five dead, was caught by forest
officials on November 11.

The rogue elephant was cornered in the Rongjuli forest area in Assam state's Goalpara district, with footage showing how a herd of tame elephants helped to subdue it before it was tranquilised.

Assam forest department officials had launched the operation along with the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the area to save local people from the menace, that had destroyed property, farmland and killed or injured many people.

It is believed the elephant "Osama bin Laden" will be transported to a remote location in the wild, far from human habitation, and released following its capture.

The incident took place on Nov. 11 in the Rongjuli forest area in the state's Goalpara district.

Visuals show a herd of elephants, who had volunteered in capturing 'Laden' (the name given to the killer elephant) while also navigating him.

A large number of villagers can be seen to have gathered at the venue to witness and film the incident.

According to the reports, the pachyderm was named 'Laden' after he killed many villagers, destroyed plantations and terrorized the area before being captured.

Assam forest department officials had launched the operation along with the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the area, to free the residents of this fear.

The wild mammal was finally taken into custody after being tranquillized and captured.

Reports say the elephant had killed many including five in 72 hours.
