Intense protests continue on the one-year anniversary of the police-linked death of left-wing activist Camilo Catrillanca, also known as "Lonko Mapuche" (Chief of Mapuche communities in Spanish) which was commemorated on Thursday in Santiago, Chile, (November 14).

Camilo Marcelo Catrillanca Marín was a Mapuche farmer and left-wing activist of Ercilla in Chile who was killed by the Chilean police force.

The incident led to protests against police violence and occurred in the broader context of the ongoing conflict over Mapuche civil rights.

At least 20 people have died and about 1,000 have been injured in the protests that started over a hike of subway prices on October 25.
