Corporal Timothy Jeffers joined the United States Marine Corps as a reservist in 2002 and voluneered for active duty in 2005. On May 18, 2006, Corpoal Jeffers was three months into a seven-month deployment when he dismounted the lead security vehicle in a convoy and was the victim of an IED explosion. He was left with critical wounds to two-thirds of his body. Corporal Jeffers sustained severe head and abdominal injuries, lost both of his legs above the knee, a finger on his right hand, and his right eye. He also suffers from PTSD. Jeffers will receive a mortgage-free home through the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation's Smart Home program.
