Southern Right Whales (Eubalaena australis) feed in sub-Antarctic and Antarctic waters, then travel North for the breeding season, which goes from July to November, having its peak in August-September. These were the first mother and calf sighting of the season, in Torres – Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. They stay closer to shore, in shallower water, where they are less likely to be disturbed. Seeing a mother with a calf is always extra special!
