Villagers gathered in numbers to drive away a herd of wild elephants that strayed away from the forests and began raiding their crops in northeast India.

The incident took place on November 19 in Golaghat district, Assam.

Visuals show at least 20 elephants crossing the road and entering a field, and later feasting on crops from both plantations and farmland.

Dozens of people can be seen filming the elephants from a distance, while some began throwing rocks and screaming to try and drive the wayward herd away from the crops.

According to reports, the herd in total consisted of 30 to 50 elephants, and locals claim similar incursions happen every year as elephants stray away from their habitat in search of food.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
