This is the moment an albino Burmese python struck fear into police officers after being unfurled at the station.

Rescuer workers caught the rare snake after it slithered into a house in Saraburi, central Thailand, on Thursday (November 21).

The reptile, a protected species, is believed to have escaped from its enclosure where it was being kept as a pet or had been living in the wild.

Footage shows the chaos in the police station after rescue workers dumped the albino Burmese python outside the sergeant's office.

Officers needed to record the case because the snake is one of Thailand's protected species and the rescuers were afraid of releasing it back into the wild.

The wildlife worker who caught the python said it might have escaped from a house where it was being kept as an expensive pet.

He said: "The python is a special Thai snake species and that was why I took it to the police.''

Inquiry inspector, Police Captain Siriluck Huabsakul from Saraburi police, said that she recorded the incident because the python is a rare species.

She said: "The reptile needs to be kept by the rescue team for 15 days, if we cannot find the owner we need to send it to the wildlife preservation."

Thai albino Burmese python, or python molurus bivittatus, is listed under the country's Wild Animal Reservation and Protection Act 1992.

The animals are found near water and appear at nighttime.
