This wild python has a head for heights - it was caught at the top of a 17ft high lamppost in Thailand.

Shocked drivers noticed the python wrapped around the motorway light on Tuesday (November 26) morning in Krabi, southern Thailand.

Rescue workers closed the road for two hours as they used a cherry picker to grapple with the 14ft long reptile.

One of the rescue workers said the snake may have chased a rat up the pole during the night then stayed at the top for a nap.

He said: "We think that the snake might have followed a rodent up the light then rested at the top or was stuck and didn't know how to get down again.

''It's unusual to see a python on the top of the road light. Some of the drivers would have been scared.''

The serpent was stretched out and estimated to be around 14ft long and weigh 33Ibs. It was then returned back to nature.
