This is the shocking moment overhead power cables burst into flames at a busy junction.

Thamonwan Kongphan was working in a post office in Bangkok, Thailand, when she heard the explosion across the street.

Footage from Monday (25/11) afternoonshows the raging fire spreading along the wire amidst a ball of sparks, causing terrified pedestrians to run away.

Thamonwan said that the firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire before the authorities came to fix the wires.

She said: "The fire was extinguished by the firefighters followed by some people from the government, who came to fix the wire. I don't know how it happened or what caused it, but I'm just glad that nobody was hurt.''

Bangkok is notorious for its tangled mass of unsightly black cables which are strung above the pavements in the bustling city.

Microsoft boss Bill Gates them in 2016 and Thailand's military government vowed to move the cables - a mixture of phone and electricity lines - underground but three years on, they still remain.
