A group of tourists in northern India got the fright of their lives on Saturday (November 30th) when a wild tiger chased their safari vehicle.

Footage filmed in Ranthambore National Park in the north Indian state of Rajasthan shows the vehicle stopped on a road with tourists photographing a tigress known as Sultana.

When the tour vehicle reverses away, however, the tigress follows and then starts to chase the vehicle for about 30 metres.

The driver quickly stops reversing and steps on the gas to get away but still the tiger gives chase for several metres before eventually giving up and disappearing into the undergrowth.

Some local reports blamed the expansion of tourism for the unusual behaviour of the big cat, suggesting that the felines are angered by the constant stream of safari vehicles.

The incident happened around 3pm on November 30 at national park's zone no.1 in Sawai Madhopur.

According to wildlife activists, the ever-increasing presence of safari vehicles and tourists in the reserve forest has started to make the wild animals, particularly the big cats, aggressive.

Yesterday's incident stands testimony to that. Otherwise not to so aggressive Sultana too lost cool due to the ever-increasing footfall of humans in their territory.

In the visuals, the tourists perched atop safari vehicle seem pretty elated after spotted the big cat.

The prying eyes of the tourists and constant clicking of cameras disturbed the animal so much that she lost her cool and start running towards the vehicle.

Scared stiff, the tourists could be heard pleading the driver to speed away.

Initially, the driver takes the vehicle in reverse think that tiger won't pursue them further. But when the tiger kept chasing them angrily for at least a 100 meters, the driver hurriedly stepped on the gas.

Much to their surprise, the ferocious tigress was still chasing them for some time. Fortunately, the beast changed her mind eventually and disappeared into the bushes.
