Crocodile trapped in 45-foot-deep pit lifted out with winch after 17 hours in north India
A crocodile trapped in a 45-ft deep pit was pulled out to safety after a marathon operation in the north Indian state of Rajasthan.
The 9-foot-long reptile crawled out of the Parwan river and got trapped in the pit being dug up for construction of a road bridge at Kalmodia in Baran district on November 1.
According to forest department officials, people working at the site informed them about the presence of a crocodile in the pit late in the night.
The rescue team arrived the following morning at the scene and started rescue operations. The depth of the pit required the use of a hydraulic winch to lift out the crocodile.
The driver is seen slowly and carefully lifting the beast out of the pit to avoid causing any injury to the animal in distress.
The beast, forest rangers said, was trapped in the pit for around 17 hours and was rescued after a three-hour-long operation carried out by the joint team of Harnavdashahji, Sarthal and Aklera forest rangers and staffers.
