This is the heartbreaking moment typhoon Kammuri victims see their destroyed homes for the first time after returning from evacuation centres.

Footage shows local residents of Bulabog village in Sorsogon City sort through their homes reduced to pieces of wood and take what they can salvage.

Typhoon Kammuri first hit land in Sorsogon City on Monday (December 2) evening as the equivalent of a Category 4 Atlantic Hurricane.

National disaster officials have yet to release an official number, but at least 13 people died in the Luzon and Visayas islands in the Philippines because of the typhoon, while thousands have lost their homes and livelihood.

Kammuri, a rare December typhoon, is the strongest to have hit the country this year.
