Willem Breytenbach, former executive at Media 24, at his first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court, was released after being granted bail of R50 000.00.

Breytenbach faces charges of sexual and indecent assault in matters dating back to 1997. Breytenbach was arrested on 3 December in Mossel Bay and transported back to Cape Town to be processed. Deon Wigget, a Johannesburg based copywriter, outed Breytenbach in a series of podcasts and alleged that Breytenbach has raped him in 1997.

Breytenbach is due back in court on 4 February 2020.
