Herd of stampeding wild elephants chase after forest workers in east India
A herd of around 60 elephants was caught on camera marching near an inhabited village in east India and charging after villagers and forest workers trying to deter them.
The herd arrived at Shyamraipur near the town of Numaligarh near Golaghat, Assam on December 3 at around 9:00am, and villagers began to gather to make noise and try to drive away the elephants.
Cameras set up in the area caught the moments when the 60 elephants, including a number of calves, charged after the crowd of villagers and forest officers, who were unable to stop them.
Luckily no injuries were reported.
Elephants populations often are seen near settled areas in Assam, and frequently damage local crops and buildings, due to shrinking habitats and growing human expansion.
